Project Area Map
Land, Water, People
Land, water, and communities are the beating heart of South Carolina's coast. The CRIP focuses on developing large-scale and transformational nature-based projects that will complement other resilience planning efforts and help to achieve a geographically wider extent of benefits. Explore the story behind the CRIP through interactive maps covering the North, Mid, and South coastal regions.
These interactive maps are designed to support coastal resilience efforts by visualizing key spatial data across three thematic areas: Land, Water, and People & Culture. Each map includes study layers that highlight the importance of natural features, water systems, and demographic or cultural sites in planning for resilience. Users can explore these maps by toggling layers on or off using the layers icon located in the bottom left corner, filtering visibility through the legend, and switching between two different basemaps using the toggle in the upper right corner. These tools help users better understand and engage with the spatial data relevant to CRIP.
Future Scenarios
What Are Future Scenarios and Why Do They Matter?
Future scenarios use scientific models and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to visualize potential changes along South Carolina’s coast due to climate extremes and uncertainty. These visualizations help communities prepare for risks and make informed decisions.
What types of data are included in these scenarios?
You’ll find layers showing:
- Sea Level Rise (SLR)
- FEMA Flood Zones to identify Flood risk areas
- Extreme climate scenarios including temperature, precipitation, and storm forecasts
Who can use this information?
Planners, conservationists, local governments, and residents can use these tools to:
- Understand future potential conditions
- Identify vulnerabilities
- Support development of solutions
